In addition to the standard petrol tank in g-tron underfloor luggage compartment also has two cylinders of compressed 200 bar methane – each with a capacity of 7 kg. Moreover, these tanks are made of carbon-fiber reinforced polymer laminate, and therefore weigh 27 kg lighter than a traditional tank of compressed gas.

Another fact is that new Audi A3 Sportback g-tron has an electronic gas pressure regulator, which can vary the pressure to the cylinders of methane from 5 to 9 bar, depending on the required engine power and vehicle speed. If the tank pressure falls below 10 bar, the system automatically switches to petrol. G-tron is always running on gasoline at cold start and soon after refueling, but switches to the gas as soon as possible. At a rate of about 3.5 kg per 100 km on methane car can travel about 400 km and 900 km on petrol.
