The modified R8 is supplied by a 2.9-liter V6 power unit with two turbochargers instead of aspirated V8 motor used in the basic Audi R8. The V8 emission level does not meet the new standards, and its revision is expensive and unprofitable. This was the main reason for the V6 appearance in the motor’s line. Depending on the augmentation ratio, the motor can generate 440 – 450 horsepower and 550 – 600 Nm of torque. In addition, the next generation Audi R8 will be equipped with two motors. According to preliminary information, the most powerful version capacity will be equal to 500 horses and 680 Nm.

Audi workers expect that the novelty will be able to attract the attention of customers due to the light and cheap motor. They also suggest that the use of 2.9-liter V6 will significantly increase sales of R8 on the Chinese market.
